About Dial & Crown
An international horology publication. Watchmaking over hype, craft over status, knowledge over noise.
What Dial & Crown is
Dial & Crown is an international publication devoted to horology: mechanical watchmaking, its makers, its history and its culture. We cover new releases, manufactures and independent ateliers, auction results, collecting, and the craft behind the dial, for readers who care about how watches are made and why they matter.
Editorial philosophy
Three principles guide everything we publish:
- Watchmaking over hype. Movements, finishing and engineering come first; market noise comes second.
- Craft over status. We judge watches by what is in them and how they are made, not by who wears them.
- Knowledge over noise. Fewer stories, better researched, written to last.
Editorial standards
- Verification. Specifications, references and prices are checked against manufacturer and primary sources before publication. Where a fact cannot be verified, we say so.
- Independence. Coverage is editorially independent. Commercial relationships, where they exist, are disclosed and do not buy favorable coverage.
- Honest reviews. A review implies hands-on time with the watch only when hands-on time actually occurred. Where coverage is based on manufacturer materials or press information, we say so plainly.
- Corrections. Errors are corrected openly and promptly.
